How to learn a language…

I always get asked for ideas and hints to help improve a student’s language learning ability. I always give the same advice: LIVE the language you’re learning! There really is no other way! THINK it – don’t keep translating into your own language, it’s a slow process and will only hinder you. DON’T study grammar – well at least not heavily. Grammar will come naturally and takes up valuable time you can be using to study the mainstream of the language, such as audio, pronunciation, intonation, vocabulary, etc.
RELAX – I can’t mention this enough! If you’re taking a test like TOEIC or IELTS, you MUST learn to relax. They are not tests which have a pass or fail grade, they are simple tests to grade your current level of English! If you’re relaxed, you will find studying so much easier.
Don’t forget if you have any questions or need help, feel free to email me at teacher@englishnowtv.com
Have a great day!
